Bio:

As a visual artist, Richard Jenkins is focused on finding and creating meaning though narrative imagery. Early in his childhood, he developed a fascination with drawing and stories, being especially fond of illustrated storybooks and comics. His passion for visual storytelling continued well into his college education. After earning his BFA in Painting from the University of Oklahoma in 1994, he set out to begin his artistic career.

From 1997 to 2006, Richard worked as the co-creator of the national series, "Sky Ape," illustrating one four-issue series and three graphic novels. He has also created short-story comics for various anthologies. In 2009 he illustrated a children's story-coloring book entitled "Princess Ann and the Magic Egg."

Richard also works as an Arts & Education Consultant and Teaching Artist across the country. Since 1997, he has guided participants through the creative and inquisitive process of making art and stories. In 2008 Richard co-authored a teacher's manual entitled "Comics in your Curriculum." In 2009, Richard was awarded the Teaching Artist Fellowship from VSA Washington DC. Richard trains educators in arts integration, arts learning assessment, teaching disabled students, and Arts & UDL application.

Currently Richard is a field reporter for the Teaching Artist Journal and is illustrating and co-writing his latest graphic novel entitled "Toil."
