Red Dirt Rangers at Riverfield Country Day School
Riverfield Country Day School was recently awarded a grant through the Oklahoma Arts Council. Funds from the Small Grant Support provided students with a unique arts experience with a group of musicians known as the Red Dirt Rangers. Administration and music teachers from Riverfield Country Day School developed a program that combined the teaching component of a teaching artist residency with the performance experience of a touring program. By integrating the visiting artists’ repertoire into required music objectives, students were instructed in chord progression, composition, recognition of music in relation to history and culture as well as music appreciation. As part of the students’ evaluation a formal performance with the Red Dirt Rangers was held at the school’s gymnasium for fellow students, faculty, staff, family and friends.
