Cultural Development Resources

Cultural Heritage Tourism
This site was created as a resource for organizations and individuals who are developing, marketing or managing cultural heritage tourism attractions or programs. Managed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, this electronic clearinghouse includes information provided by members of Partners in Tourism, a coalition of the national organizations and agencies with an interest in cultural heritage tourism. For those just getting started, there are guiding principles and how-to steps for launching a new effort. Examples of success stories are featured, and the resources section includes key contacts in virtually every state as well as national resources for funding and technical assistance.

Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits
The center provides quality training and development programs through two major sources, workshops and delivery of on-site seminars.  Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits also offers consulting services.

Oklahoma Folklife Council
An organization formed in 1988 by scholars, tradition bearers, and others interested in Oklahoma folklife, the Folklife Council is dedicated to the identification, preservation, and presentation of traditional culture in the state.

Oklahoma Historical Society
A state agency whose mission is to preserve and perpetuate the history of Oklahoma and its people by collecting, interpreting and disseminating knowledge of Oklahoma and the Southwest.

Oklahoma Humanities Council
The OHC is an independent, nonprofit organization whose mission is to enrich the lives of individuals and communities by fostering access to and education in the humanities. As the state partner for the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), the OHC supports scholarship and other nonprofit organizations promoting the humanities.

Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department
The Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department works to advance economic development through the promotion of travel and tourism to and within the state of Oklahoma.

Oklahoma Main Street Center
The Oklahoma Main Street Center provides training and technical assistance for preservation-based commercial district revitalization. 

Preservation Oklahoma, Inc.
Founded in 1992, Preservation Oklahoma Incorporated (POK) is the only statewide membership-supported preservation organization in Oklahoma. Its mission is to protect and promote our state's historic resources, communities and landscapes through education, leadership and advocacy.
