Grant Categories
- Organizational Support – March

The Oklahoma Arts Council awards grants for Organizational Support to provide funding to established 501(c)(3) arts organizations to support operational and programming costs. Eligibility is determined by the Council based on the organization’s overall operating budget, stability, history of compliance with Council guidelines and overall programming. Eligible organizations apply every two years, with separate awards for each year.
Applicants in this category are ineligible for any other grant categories.
- Major Grant Support – February
1
The Oklahoma Arts Council awards grants for Major Grant Support to provide matching funds to support eligible organizations’ arts projects throughout the year. Organizations are eligible to apply for one application per year which may include up to five separate projects. Eligible organizations include 501(c)(3) organizations, only eligible school districts (individual schools are ineligible), libraries, tribes, city or county local governments, and universities/colleges. Applicants in this category are ineligible to apply in Small Grant Support.
- Small Grant Support – 60
day deadline
The Oklahoma Arts Council provides financial assistance through the Small
Grant Support category to support eligible organizations’ arts projects. Organizations are eligible to apply for two projects per year. First time applicants must apply in this grant category. Eligible organizations include 501(c)(3) organizations, school districts (individual schools are ineligible), libraries, tribes, city or county local governments, and universities/colleges. Although not limited to, generally applicants in this category have operating budgets under $25,000.
- Small Grant Support For Schools – 60 day deadline
The Oklahoma Arts Council provides financial assistance through the Small Grant Support for Schools program to encourage schools to bring the arts into their classrooms. The Small Grant Support for Schools allows schools to apply for funds directly from the Council and does not require them to apply through their district. This grant also requires schools to match only 25% of the total requested amount.
- Local Government Challenge Grants – May
15
The purpose of the Local Government Challenge Grant is to encourage
local governments to support the arts. The grant provides an incentive
to localities to contribute local tax revenues to the arts. It is
designed to improve local resource flexibility, foster local arts
coalitions and provide opportunities for local governments to partner
with private enterprise. City or county local governments are limited to one application per year.
- Arts in Alternative Education – September
1 and December 1
The Arts in Alternative Education program provides funds to assist
with hands-on instruction and participation in the arts in Alternative
Education programs in public schools in Oklahoma. The program is
offered through a partnership of the Oklahoma Arts Council and the
State Department of Education and is designed to motivate students
whose needs are not met by traditional educational services. Only sites designated by the State Dept. of Education as an alternative education site are eligible to apply.
