Keith Murray Illumina
August 15 thru October 23, 2005
Techniques born to masters of the old world transcend centuries of
new art forms, consequently movements that are defined by such techniques
never wither away. Accurate proportions, chiaroscuro effects, objective
representation are all elements of classical realism which native Oklahoman
Keith Murray employs in his exhibit, Illumina.
Contextually, Murray’s work depicts deep symbolism allowing
him to nonverbally communicate allegories to his audience. This symbolism
portrays the mysteries of the physical world through ethereal form
which is the essence of Murray’s overall aspiration.
When contemplating his work, Murray remembers, “From a very early
age, I was enthralled by the idea of things bigger and more enduring
than myself and my place in the universe. I saw a beautiful, contrasting,
authentic drama of life playing with purpose all around me, and I was
compelled to tell that truth in picture form to anyone who would listen.”
His execution is perfectly detailed with faultless form. The reflection
of light beaming off the objects often reveals a secondary image that
mystifies the viewer. His work is strictly realism. Murray’s
fascination with light pays homage to the masters that have inspired
him including Rembrandt van Rijn and Leonardo da Vinci.
Murray earned his bachelor’s of art degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1990 and continued his education at West Texas A&M University graduate school. For six years, Murray studied classical realism with nationally known artist, Kirk Richards. His intense training in the arts has resulted in priceless knowledge that the artist has utilized for the betterment of his community. In addition to serving as President of the Artists of the Arbuckles for two consecutive terms, he has taught art corporately and privately as well as conducted various artistic workshops. Murray’s immense talent has yielded several shows and exhibitions in various art galleries. His work was also chosen for display at a recent NATO conference in Texas.
