Bio:
For over 30 years, Stephen Smith has enjoyed a full time career as an Edu-tainer, performing for libraries, schools, and community groups across Oklahoma and the United States. He has portrayed historic characters such as Ben Franklin, Orville Wright, and Samuel Austin Worchester of Cherokee history. He has created such characters as Okie Dokie and Professor “B” Looney that use art to teach a variety of subjects. He calls himself an Edu-tainer because his performances and workshops as an actor, puppeteer, ventriloquist and storyteller are both entertaining and educational.
Arts Learning Goals:
- Learn to create a believable character for puppets or first person singular storytelling.
- Learn the basics of their character – Who, What, When, Where and most importantly Why!
- Learn to manipulate the puppet in a believable way and (if we are building the puppets) to create puppets that you can move in a believable way.
- For Ventriloquism- to learn the skills of letter substitution, misdirection, and conflict.
- Learn the sequencing skills of storytelling.
- Learn from history by looking at a time though another persons eyes.
- Learn about yourself by becoming someone else.
