Public Policy
Protect arts-related public policy while facilitating positive change.
- Facilitate the development of a statewide arts advocacy group to
empower and expand the base of support for public funding of the
arts in Oklahoma.
- Encourage
communities to hold Candidate Forums on the Arts
- Work for
passage of the “State of Oklahoma: Arts in Public Places
Act” that sets aside a percentage of funds from state capital
projects for commissioning of art to be placed in public buildings
or on public lands. (This Act was enacted September 1, 2004)
Partner with the Oklahoma Historical Society in management of Act.
- Encourage
local governments to create a percent for arts for their community
that sets aside a percentage of funds from city capital projects
for commissioning of art to be placed in public buildings or on public
lands.
- Encourage the adoption of a fine arts college entrance requirement
at all state colleges and universities.
- Encourage the increase of fine
arts requirements for education majors at all state colleges and
universities.
- Increase the participation of
Local Government Challenge Grant participants.
- Assume
a leadership role in arts education policy development and implementation.
- Continue
legislative mandated official role in development of major institutions
and advisory role with other state agencies in cultural affairs.
